Introduction :

Dental science is an important integral branch of modern medical sciences. Today’s dental surgeons are trained not only to treat dental diseases but also to diagnose and treat diseases and fractures occurring in the entire orofacial region, ranging from dental caries to periodontitis to oral cancer to maxillofacial injuries. Keeping this in mind, the Faculty of Dentistry at BRLSABVM MEDICAL COLLEGE has an ambitious vision of continued growth and development over the coming academic years.

Facilities :
Department of Dentistry is located at the first floor of the OPD block and is the focal centre of many activities. Dental Department conducts activities which include Routine OPD on all the 6 days of the week, and runs 24 hrs Emergency services, Age determination for criminal cases associated with juvenile and adults, Medico-legal cases, and Indoor Wards managed by resident doctors around the clock. Dental department attends numerous cases referred from various departments, nearby hospitals and dispensaries to provide with generalized and specialized dental treatment procedures. It is also part of specialized samman clinics with an objective to provide specialized care to the elderly patients.

Achievements and Research :
There is an ongoing
• postdoctoral research on prescene of third molar in young adults
• retrospective and prospective assessment of types of injuries to facial skeleton in patients involved in RTA also the causes of RTA.

Courses : Medical Undergraduates are briefly taught about basics of Dentistry.

Symposium/Seminar/Publication :
Health care providers were briefly familiarized with identification and management of precancerous lesions of oral cavity.
